THE STORY OF MY REEL MOMENTS
I am excited to tell your story, but before that… I offer you mine.
Creating My Reel Moments is a personal quest for me. I was very close to my Grandma – we were even roommates for 6 years. She was so wise and we talked a lot, about family history, memories, life stories. But she did not want to be filmed and even though I was a budding documentary filmmaker, I did not insist enough on recording her. I just didn’t want to push her… but I should have. Now I regret it. That regret – and of course my background as a filmmaker – inspired me to want to help others preserve their family history.
This photo captures a singular moment in time. It shows me as a baby with my Mom, Granny and Great Grandma captured by my uncle – their brother, son and grandchild – in the 1970s. I always found this photo magical, looking at their faces all smiling and focusing on the baby, their similar features, their hands touching and cradling me…
Four generations of women in my family in one picture – a priceless memory I can pass onto my own children.
The idea of My Reel Moments occurred to me while listening to my family and friends complaining that they had so many photos and videos on their hard drives, but no time and opportunity to organize them. I have been asked by friends and their friends to help them create gifts for their loved ones. For graduations – to look at how the small child grew up, for wedding receptions – to watch milestones together with family members. I loved to create those videos and was always touched by the positive responses I got after the events.
The other motivation was preserving family histories. I hope to help families realize that if you want your children to learn about your family, now is the right time to have Grandma and Grandpa sit down and talk about it. I can be there to record it. Or if you already recorded it I am happy to put into a form that your children will enjoy for many years to come.
MY STORY
I have been blessed to have a profession that is also my passion. Stories have fascinated me since my childhood. My 20+ years of experience in visual storytelling and documentary filmmaking gives me a strong foundation to create your family memory films.
My Reel Moments is a uniquely personal and discreet approach to family storytelling. There is no team, only me and my creations based on your visual material.
